Kim Morgan Wheeler is a performance and dance photographer / videographer currently based in Glasgow, Scotland.
Early Career
Kim began his creative journey as a singer and multi-instrumentalist from 2013 onwards. After graduating with a BA(Hons) in Commercial Music, Kim began singing professionally and booking events around Scotland. His company Wheeler Entertainments booked 1000+ bar/club gigs around Scotland every year and often times Kim would find himself performing on those stages too.
In his love for travel and capturing adventure, Kim bought his first professional camera. Despite not really knowing how to use it at the time the love for photography and videography was there. So when Covid struck the UK and singing jobs were eradicated, Kim was left with a camera and an idea. With a bit of luck and a push in the right direction Kim found himself shadowing a group of professional photographers in Glasgow, learning as they do.
While Covid restrictions continued to slowly lift, Kim was able to begin working more with others and help in bigger jobs and eventually have a better understanding on how to conduct a photoshoot.
Dance
In 2021 Kim got hired to work with a dance school. Admittedly winging the entire shoot Kim (and the dancers) were extremely pleased with the results, and that was basically it. The snowball effect of working with young dancers set Kim on the path of becoming one of Scotland's leading performance photographers and his name is known among many.
Style
Kim's style is clean and bright. He believes that over-editing often removes emotion and character from an image so his focus is to create amazing imagery that is still commercially viable. Colour, space and expression are all important factors in how Kim creates an image, not to mention confident dance direction and form critique.
Beliefs
Safety and comfort are at the forefront of Kim's beliefs. Every dancer should feel safe when they are shooting. They should feel confident in their own skin, safe with their photographer and there should never be any unusual practices.
Kim proudly works with every person regardless of where they are from, what they believe, their sexual preferences or how they identify themselves. Photoshoots are there to be empowering and Kim is there to hype you up no-matter what.
